Soccer

Soccer (known in many countries as football) is one of the world's most well-known sports. It is a type of sport that combines speed, strength, and skill. There are two teams, each side with 11 players, play on a rectangular field and try to score by kicking or “heading” a ball into the opposing team’s goal. Except for the goalkeeper, the players are usually not permitted to touch the ball with their hands or arms. A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line between the two goal posts. The team which scores the most goals wins.

Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation. It represents the sport's highest level in the United States. The league of the MLS contains 24 teams—21 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada and constitutes one of the important professional sports leagues in both countries. The regular season continues from March to October, with each team playing 34 games. The team with the best record is awarded the Supporters' Shield. Fourteen teams compete in the postseason MLS Cup Playoffs through October and November, culminating in the championship game, the MLS Cup. MLS teams also play in domestic competitions against teams from other divisions in the U.S. Open Cup and in the Canadian Championship. MLS teams also contend against continental rivals in the CONCACAF Champions League. There are several popular soccer competitions in twentieth century. One of them and most significant one is World Cup which has probably the highest percentage of influence on an international arena all over the world is World Cup. The FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup, or simply World Cup, a multinational soccer championship is held once within each four years by the senior men's national teams of the FIFA members since 1930 when it was presented to the world for the first time. FIFA is the global governing representative of sport. The event took place every 4 years in different countries of the world. In this event, the host is elected by FIFA, and is announced within several years before the event. Moving to club football federations it is essential to state Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and The UEFA Champions League (UCL) which is the major and annual club competition held by the UEFA. The main purpose of UCL is set to disclose the best European club among the best ones from top-divisions of European league. Even though it is held in Europe UCL has the same influence among all clubs as World Cup among national teams. It deemed as the most important, prestigious club competition in the world.
